“Aayan Hirsi Ali: From Atheist to Christian - A critical examination”

On November 11, 2023, an article by Ayaan Hirsi Ali, called “Why I am now a Christian” was published on the media site UnHerd. Today we will critically examine Ali’s change of heart, its motives and discuss what it means that one of the most strident and compelling voices of modern Atheism has decided to cast their lot with Christians after decades of fighting under the Secular/Atheist banner.

Questions:

1) What were your impressions of her as an atheist?
2) Why do you think she converted to Christianity?
3) Do you think that it will tarnish any work she did as an atheist?
4) Do you think she will be able to accomplish more in her quest for
justice and feminism as a Christian?
5) As atheists, how should we respond when one of our own embraces
religion again?
6) How justified and surprising is her move back to religion?
