“Sustainable Food”
Presented by Victor Provenzano

This HAT forum discussion will focus on the issue of Sustainable Food. Here are a few of the key questions:

1) In what way is our current unsustainable way of growing food one of the major causes of the now unfolding sixth mass extinction?

2) How are the water, food, and climate crises intimately linked and, hence, why are their respective solutions so conveniently synergistic?

3) If rivers are running dry and aquifers are being drained around the world mostly because of farming, how can a new kind of farming contribute to the reversal of this emerging pattern of water shortages in the Global South and the Global North?

4) If, as the UN FAO says, our farm soil is now on the way to being depleted within the next 50 years, how can we stop the ongoing depletion and effectively restore the soil for ourselves and the coming generations?

5) If the rise in the number of wildfires, droughts, and extreme weather events all seem to point to the future unviability of our current global food system, how can we begin to raise food in new places other than on our current farms so as to successfully overcome the foreseeable effects of climate change on our future grain supply?

6) In what ways can we eliminate some of the massive amount of food waste that is now being generated from farm to table so as to increase our future supply of food?

7) What are some of the ways in which one can alter one's diet so as to have, as individuals, a smaller resource footprint and thereby ensure that we will be able to feed the 9 to 11 billion human beings who will soon be living on our planet?

Join us for a very relevant and important discussion.
