“The Promise of Technology”
Presented by Eyad Boukli

Technological advancements hold immense potential to revolutionize human life by solving global challenges such as climate change, poverty, and disease. Innovations in renewable energy, sustainable agriculture, and personalized medicine, like solar power booms, AI-driven farming, and gene therapy breakthroughs, are already transforming our world.

Moreover, technology is expanding human potential by exploring new frontiers in space exploration, genetic engineering, and human-computer interaction. Initiatives like Mars missions, gene editing advancements, and the VR revolution are pushing the boundaries of human knowledge and capabilities. However, this promise comes with its own set of challenges and risks.

Significant Issues Include:

  • Job Displacement: Due to automation and AI.

  • Privacy Violations: From data breaches.

  • Ethical Dilemmas: In genetic engineering and AI.

  • Environmental Impact: From e-waste.

  • Social Division: Due to unequal access to technology.

The potential impact of AI on the job market, privacy concerns from data breaches, ethical implications of facial recognition technology, environmental costs of discarded electronics, and disparities in internet access across socioeconomic groups all highlight the need for careful consideration and regulation.

While technology has delivered remarkable advancements in communication and information access, connecting people globally and democratizing knowledge, its impact on social inequality, environmental damage, and ethical development has been mixed. Addressing these challenges is crucial to realizing the full promise of technology.

So, what policy would you suggest to regulate the tech industry?
